Trofeo Rosso 2008-Guzzis
August 18, 2008Following the Ducati post
Here are some Guzzi pics for you,
taken at this years Trofeo Rosso,
the Italian Bike weekend held at Val de Vienne
a race circuit near Poitiers,Central France
mid July 2008.
Allways well represented in France,
the Guzzi marque has legions of followers here.
Heres a nice outfit for you…
Just look at this beast-CLASS OR WHAT!!!!!!!
This TRIKING,
3 wheeler,Guzzi powered
(a true homage to the Morgan Aero trike;
and a worthy successor,
dont you think?)
was so well executed.
OR—-how about this for a restoration,
or is it new…….
(actually it is-yours for 8000 euros)
Trofeo 08 ducati
August 16, 2008Lots of Dukes at the Trofeo Rosso,
val de Vienne,
july 2008
Heres some pics to drool over .
An absolutely stunning restoration!
the same guy had a Guzzi 750 in even better condition
(see the trofeo guzzi post for pics)
Ever seen one of these before?
I couldnt get any closer;sorry,to see any details of this special…
They dont always run as they should
What a classic bike design-perfect!
(look at the frames behind-500 euros with log book)
“Any colour you like sir,as long as its red!”
Simple pure lines on this ducati single
Strange passengers on Harleys
August 16, 2008had an agreement to meet up in Miami
each winter for a vacation;
Last winter one flea arrives in Miami
-blue,shivering,nearly frozen to death.
“What happened to you?”
“I rode down from Chicago in the moustache of a guy riding a Harley”
“Thats terrible.Do what I do…….
Go to the airport bar,
find a Miami bound air hostess,
climb up her leg ,
find a nice warm and cosy place ,
settle down…..
the best way to travel.“
A year goes by,
the first flea again shows up
-blue,shivering,nearly frozen to death AGAIN!
“Didnt you do as I told you?”
“YES;I went to the bar,
found an air hostess,
crawled up her leg and found a warm cozy spot.
It was so nice I fell asleep.
Next thing I knew,
I,d woken up
and was back in the moustache of the guy riding the Harley!”
Lots of bits on the side!
August 12, 2008Post number 3 on sidecars!
“The public gets what the public wants…”
As Paul Weller sang…
I must admit,
Im not well up on the different types
of sidecar outfit,
but you, it seems ,
cant get enough of them!
SO
Heres some photos of a sidecar outing
to my local town,Rochechouart.
I just chanced upon them ,
so dashed home to get my camera.
Most impressive,
to an amateur like me,
were the 2 ZEUS SIDEBIKES.
Both finished in Bright yellow.
Apparantly purpose built
from new
as an outfit
the ZEUS uses the Peugeot 206 engine/box
as the power unit
(before that the 1.9 GTI motor)
steering is hub centre.
Controls are car style
(reverse gear perhaps?)
Claimed power is 160HP
If this is the case
are outfits like these
(the ZEUS and this Hayabusa)
not subject to the 100hp limit
rule in France
the same as solos?
ANYBODY OUT THERE KNOW THE ANSWER?
Some very varied powerr sources here…
Harley Davidson,(with a tradional Watsonian chair)
BMW
Yamaha
Honda,
Suzuki(a bit underpowered,the 800 VX ?)
Guzzi
And of course all sorts of chairs.
Some Euros worth here,eh?
Have a look at
www.pashnit.com
-some nice pics of outfits,
on this site
Supermono
August 8, 2008Heres a few pictures of my old supermono.
I bought it from the guy
I bought my Honda K4 racer off.
Mark used to race all the European supermono rounds
in the early 90,s.
A bad accident
which saw him break his pelvis(OUCH)
meant he couldnt race in a crouched position
-mandatory straight bars in future.
I think I paid about £700 for it!
A racing TZ 250 Yamaha chassis
with a Yamaha SRX 660 motor squeezed in.
Very Very high compression
and heavy flywheel
meant that at anything less than racing pace
the bike was extremely”lumpy”.
Big singles are nice and easy to ride?
probably
- unless highly tuned like this un
AND STARTING
forget about it!
Bump starting was impossible
-rollers needed ;
FOR THOSE NOT FAMILIAR…..
Drive front wheel of car
on to 2 freerolling metal cylinders
attached to captive frame;
Put rear wheel of bike onto same
Engage gear and start car
-moving wheel spins rollers to required speed
bike wheel spins at same speed
drop clutch on bike
Bike starts-thats the theory.
One wet weekend at Darley Moor circuit
near Ashbourne in Derbyshire
we were waiting ,
engines running
in the holding area of the paddock.
It was to be a clutch start Rookie race.
At the last minute
word came down from on high
-”a bump start” was thought safer in the wet.
Thats me finished then.
I just turned round and drove back to the van.
Classic car racing le Vigeant
August 3, 2008I,m not a car fan
but I love to go
to the Ramparts race for classic cars,
at Angouleme every September.
Fantastic atmosphere,
amazing old cars,
and a marvellous circuit through the streets of Angouleme,
a bit like the Monaco Grand Prix,
except all the cars are classics.
Old Bugattis coming out of the corners
sideways with the tyres smoking-fantastic!
I,ll post some pics for you after this years race.
These photos are of some classic car races
we chanced upon at the Val de vienne circuit
near Poitiers .
I,m afraid I dont know much about cars
but I know that the Porsche 911,s
were probably the quickest there;
I still prefer 2 wheels.
